Comments: It is a double-trunked tree, cbh measured at 1 ft.

2019 update: An extensive search along the Appalachian Trail from throughout the balds from Thomas Knob Shelter, up to the Mount Rogers summit, and then out toward Elk Garden could not locate this tree. Several deteriorating Sorbus were located in the area, but none truly matched the details shown in the 2007 photo. Fate of the tree is unknown. Has been dethroned as state champion until further evidence is found. Remains all-time species champion based on 2007 measurements.
