Comments: Plantation was Colonel George Hairston's home, built in 1776. The southern magnolias are believed to be pre-Civil War; boxwood 1813-16.

2019 update: Visited site and followed GPS and no Catalpa of such a size was found. There was a much smaller catalpa near the Magnolia in the record, however, its circumference was only 96 inches and not consistent with this tree. Former state champion.
