Comments:
2022 update: Trunk was remeasured using composite circumference to obtain a more representative score. The stems were measured 59" above ground: 156" girth and 166" girth.
The tree dominates a small cemetery with headstones dating back to 1890. The cemetery has a small, iron fence that the tree has grown over. A larger fence has been installed as a result.
The trunk forks into two stems at about 2' above ground and the stems are appressed to one another until about 59" above ground. The girth of the double-stemmed trunk measured below the fork in 2019 was 256". This is not a measurement acceptable to American Forests, so the tree is not recognized as a national champion.
2019 Update: The tree has continued to grow and appears to be healthy. It is in close proximity to overhead utility lines and has a diminished crown spread as a result of frequent pruning. Previously measured in 2019 by Jason Sprouls at 256", 80', 80', 356 points.
