Comments: The tree has some hollow stems but is blooming well and is expertly cared for by staff.
2019 update: Tree is very old and stressed. One of the major stems is majorly hollowed out, and some of the other stems have numerous indications of decay. The crown appears somewhat healthy, but certainly not vigorous. The tree has been cabled and pruned to try to prevent crown failure. Trunk circumference was previously measured at ground line. A composite circumference was calculated in 2019. Measured the 4 main stems at 4.5 ft. They were 78”, 53”,42”, and 14”.This resulted in a reduced score. No longer state champion.
