2021 update: This tree was crowned sole national champion by American Forests in 2021

Declared national champion in 2009, but was dethroned in 2019 due to multi-stem growth habit.

2019 Update: When the owner planted this tree, it was open-grown in yard space to the right of the driveway. Since then, the area is becoming overrun with plant growth and the tree is in danger of being completely shaded out.

The tree has numerous suckers from the roots. The composite trunk circumference was calculated using measurements of the two dominant stems taken at 4.5 feet above ground. A basal tape wrap measurement was taken at ground line that did not include the suckers and measured 33 inches. The crown spread and height measurements included large lateral branches and root crown suckers.
