Comments: 2023 Comments: Tree lost a large leader in March 2019, which may jeopardize its health. https://shoredailynews.com/headlines/eastville-champion-tree-loses-large-limb. Has lost one-third of its crown, exposing decayed wood in its crotch and trunk. Fungal growth is evident on the street-facing side of the trunk. I feel that its remaining structure will likely fail in the not-too-distant future. We were unable to speak to the owners. 2013 Comments: This tree has traded national champion status back and forth with one in Chesapeake. Recognized in 2018 as three-way national co-champion with trees in Chesapeake, VA and Mathews, VA. Located within walking distance of the historic Eastville Courthouse, which is home to the oldest continuous court records in the nation. Trunk circumference 328 in, height 105 ft, crown 137 ft, 467 points. Measured by Byron Carmean and others. More Photos |
