2026 Comments: Tree is healthy and sound. Height measured with laser hypsometer and cross-referenced with Lidar scan from May 2020. Height was previously overestimated due to sighting difficulties with analog clinometer.
2020 Comments: Declared national champion in 2018 and recognized as national co-champion in 2019, sharing title with a tree in Texas. Dethroned in 2020 by larger tree in New Jersey. The tree looks extremely healthy and sound and the owner is excited about the tree. There is a small amount of beaver damage on a root (minor damage).

Directions: Nottoway Farm, 1.4 miles west of intersection of Route 35 and Route 651 (Indiantown Road) near bank of Nottoway River, 200 feet south of river at edge of slough. Tree best accessed by driving to wildlife clearing to southwest of tree and then following the ATV trail to the northeast that passes within sight distance of tree. Best measured in winter due to extreme height and understory vegetation.
