2024 comments: A visitor to the tree in July 2024 found the tree toppled over. How long it had been down was unknown. The trunk had extensive decay and finally succumbed to the structural defect. It was the national champion of its species at the time of its demise.
2018 comments: Declared national champion in 2007. The tree appears quite healthy for its apparent old age.
