Comments:
2019 comments: Although hemlock woolly adelgid has killed dozens of giant hemlocks in this small valley, there are numerous large hemlocks still living. The canopy on this one appears green and dense, so adelgid does not seem to be adversely affecting it at this time. However, the canopy is so high above the ground that it was not possible to inspect it for adelgid. Has good structure. A solid root plate and trunk, and the branching looks good. Tree has a metal tag marked 184 on its trunk. Had a very good vantage point to measure the height from the stream. Height was probably over-estimated previously as there were no indications of crown dieback.
2008 comments: Measured by Mason Patterson in 2008. These original measurements are unknown.
