Comments: One of the most prominent and cherished trees on the Virginia Tech campus. The tree was planted by professor William Alwood around 1895 and the tree was officially named for him during a ceremony in 2011. Arborists inspected and upgraded the support cables and lightning protection system in spring 2021. Previously measured in 2010 by Kirwan, Williamson, and Carmean at 177", 85', 123', 293 points.
