2020 commements: Last remaining of four large swamp white oaks on the owner's property in the floodplain of Opequon Creek. The owner named the four giants Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John about 20 years ago. Matthew and Mark came down during the 2012 blizzard, and Luke lost most of his canopy. But this tree (John) stood strong.
2010 comments: Species identification made by Carrie Blair and confirmed by Dr. John Seiler. The swamp white oak is in good condition. No signs of significant decay or decline in the canopy. Measured in 2010 by Jeff and Judy Kirwan at 160", 100', 82', 281 points.

Directions: The tree is in the western flood plain of the Opequon Creek which divides Frederick and Clarke counties. The tree is accessed from the driveway by descending the hillside to the creek, crossing the creek, and heading west through an osage orange woodland. The large trunk sticks out conspicuously among the rather small osage orange trees. Owners live at last house in Clarke County before entering Frederick Co. on Rt. 50, on the right.
