2024 update: Recognized as national champion for first time.
John and Amber Mills (father/daughter) found Carolina hemlocks while hiking in the area, and contacted big tree volunteers for help measuring. In 2021, tree lost half its crown two years ago when a codominant leader broke out of it. Some adelgid damage. Could not access branches to see if there is an active infestation.
Tree was previously measured in 2011 by Jeff Kirwan at 72", 76', 36', 157 points.
