2024 update: Recognized again as national champion.
2024 comments: Tree has grown significantly since a heavy crown pruning 15 to 20 years ago. Crown spread 104' x 99'. Trunk measured 4.5' above a ground reference point outside the heaved root plate on level ground, established using a line level.
2019 comments: Recognized in 2019 as national co-champion with another tree in Chesapeake.
2015 comments: Declared national champion in 2012. Was formerly national champ in 1987-2002. The tree appears to be generally healthy, some large branches have broken off, but it still has a pleasant appearance. Numerous cavities in the upper branches indicate some internal decay. Trunk measured at 4.5' above ground. Measured by Carmean and Williamson at 317", 86', 89', 425 points.
