Comments:
2022 update: The tree continues to be very healthy and sound. The owner planted the tree himself. He dug it up near City of Franklin, VA and the Blackwater River in the late 1970s and grew it from a sapling in his front yard. Trunk circumference was measured as a basal wrap at the trunk's narrowest girth (2.5' above ground) because of its four leaders splitting below 4.5'.
2012 update: The tree appears healthy and sound. Measurements by Byron Carmean and Gary Williamson: circumference 162", height 69', crown 72', points 249.
