Comments:
2022 update: Tree is growing in a difficult environment on a steep bluff above Cypress Creek. The creek bank is severely undercut beneath the tree, which may predispose it to failure in the future. Crown is heavily crowded by higher vitality trees in the overstory around it. The crown is imbalanced toward the creek due to crown competition on the slope side. Difficult to assess crown health due to crowding by lower vegetation. Trunk on west side (toward slope) has long vertical seams exposing sapwood decay that may have been initiated by damage to low scaffold branches. Extensive woundwood around the seams, but decay will eventually lead to trunk failure.
2013 update: The tree has some dead wood and decay on part of trunk; a colony of honey bees resides in a hollow. There is another post oak (ID#1993) about 90' south of it on the riverbank. Measured in 2013 by Byron Carmean and Gary Williamson. Measurements 197", 103', and 64' respectively. 316 points.
