2023 comments: Tree is doing well. No evidence of decline or structural deterioration. Trunk has several burls at 4.5' above ground. Therefore, trunk was measured below the burls at 4.0' above ground. Height was likely overestimated in the past due to steep terrain.
2013 comments: The tree appears healthy for its apparent old age. Measured in 2013 by Byron Carmean, Jeff Kirwan, and Gary Williamson at 130", 78', 56', 222 points.

Downslope of road about 125 feet and visible from the road. Travel south of Elk Garden Trailhead on Route 600 (Whitetop Road). Turn right onto Mud Creek Lane (also referred to as Whitetop Mountain Road). Tree is visible from road, on left side of road, below the road elevation, about 125' from road.
