Comments:
2025 comments: Tree remains in good condition. The height is likely slightly lower now because of both a more accurate measurement (used a laser hypsometer now versus clinometer before) and storm damage. Trunk has now been measured using composite functional circumference at 4.5' above ground. Stem 1=75", Stem 2=70". Trunk below the fork at 2' above ground level measured 130" girth.
2024 update: Recognized again as national champion.
Declared national champion in 2018. This tree is in the same stand as the former national champion Fraser magnolia.
2015 comments: Tree last measured 124" trunk, 88' height, 53' crown, and 225 points in 2015 by Will Cook. Trunk circumference measured at 2' above ground line below fork in the trunk.
