Comments:
2024 comments: The tree lost a major limb a few years ago, which slightly reduced its height. Despite this, it is still doing well. A large, overpowering river birch had been crowding it, but that tree has since been removed. Now, the Maackia should have room to grow freely. John planted the tree from seed in the late 1980s, when he was raising bees that were attracted to its flowers. He grew the tree solely for the bees, and that's why it has continued to thrive.

2014 comments: Tree is healthy and in no danger of being cut down. It had a very successful blooming season and has lots of forming seed pods. The tree branches a little over a foot off of the ground and girth measurement was taken directly below this branching. Measured in 2014 by John Bunch at 45" trunk, 36' height, 26' crown, totaling 88 points.
