Comments:
2024 comments: Byron Carmean reported that the trunk that had been compromised by a lightning strike and decay finally broke apart. The left main leader (as viewed from the street) broke out of the tree. The right leader still stands, but the failure has removed half of the crown spread and trunk girth. So the tree no longer has a champion status score.
2019 comments: Declared national co-champion in 2019 with another tree in Chesapeake.
2015 comments: According to the owner, it was hit by lightning years ago and the center portion of the trunk decayed, leaving a large hollow. It was single trunked, but now appears separated in several places.
