2022 update: This was once an obviously larger tree. The main trunk is damaged and broken at 12’. Several dead limbs are evident. Tree probably will not survive in its current condition much longer. There are numerous sprouts that may take its place. This tree is in the inventory of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation: https://www.plantsmap.com/organizations/25281/plants/68153.
2012 update: The tree appears healthy and is in a safe location. Measurements by Byron Carmean and Gary Williamson: circumference 106", height 58', crown 61', points 179.
