Comments:
2026 Comments: This tree appears healthy, but is located on a steep slope which could impact it in the future and increases the difficulty of taking measurements. Tree forks into two major stems. Stem 1 forks into two stems below 4.5'. Stem 1 was measured below and above the fork. Main stem measurement (Stem 1) below fork used for scoring: at 3.2' above ground - 25". Stem 1a: at 4.5' above ground (above fork) - 20". Stem 1b: at 4.5' above ground - 14". Stem 2: at 4.5' above ground - 11". It is unclear how/where a trunk measurement of 34" was obtained in 2016 and an error is suspected.
2024 comments: Recognized as national co-champion with trees in Philadelphia, PA and Smyth County, VA.
2017 comments: Declared national champion in 2017.
2016 Comments: The tree appears healthy and sound. It should be in a safe area. Trunk forks at 5' above ground, so trunk measured below the fork, avoiding the bulge in trunk. Two root suckers at base of trunk. Previously measured by Byron Carmean, Gary Williamson, Jeff Kirwan - Trunk: 34", Height: 34', Crown: 29', Total Points: 75.
