Comments: It is a ragged old tree that sits on a step embankment of an old road bed. It has a lot of dead and broken branches in the crown, but there are also numerous healthy sprouts. There is a large cavity in the trunk, but it doesn't seem to jeopardize the tree's stability. The tree had numerous flowers in the top of the crown on the day it was measured, but its floral arrangement was kinda shabby overall. This tree is directly across the valley and within eyesight of a slightly larger serviceberry. They are almost identical in size and one has to wonder if they are siblings. It is curious that both of these trees were spared the ax when the valley was being cleared for pasture. Perhaps those folks had an appreciation for their spring beauty? Trunk circumference was measured at smallest girth between breast height and ground line because there was a cluster of branches at breast height.
