Comments:
2025 comments: De-throned as state and national co-champion. There were galls and slight yellowing of foliage. Otherwise, the tree appeared healthy. There was a significant reduction in height in the last 10 years, likely due to erroneous measurement in the past.
2024 update: Recognized as national co-champion with tree in Alexandria, VA.
2019 comments: Declared national champion in 2018 and recognized in 2019 as co-champion with another specimen in Alexandria, VA.
2017 comments: Tree appears healthy and well cared for in safe location. One of trees noted on MacMillan's 1960 survey of Arlington National Cemetery, this specimen has grown very little in the past 57 years. Quadrant photos of the trunk are in digital records. Two other C. tenuifolia are growing near this specimen. The measurements conducted by Greg Zell in 2017 were 66", 42', and 50' for a score of 121 points.
