Comments: This tree was originally nominated by Carmean and Williamson as Nyssa sylvatica in 1983. It was remeasured and properly identified in 2006.

Directions: Tree was discovered during an exploration of North Landing River Natural Area Preserve. Due to imprecision of maps, it was unclear whether the tree was on the preserve while in the field. Turns out that the tree is on private property just to the west of the preserve. This 115 acre undeveloped parcel is treasured by the owners and the tree has been admired by several generations of the family. Tree can be accessed by walking through the preserve along Blackwater Creek south of Head River Road about 425 yards south (west side of Blackwater Creek). Or tree could be accessed through the owner's property (with their permission). Property is gated and locked.
