Comments: About 60% live crown in May 2015, treated with emamectin benzoate. About 90% live crown as of July 2019, re-treated with help of VA Dept of Forestry staff. Rare to Virginia, critically endangered due to the emerald ash borer. The majority of black ash in the state have already succumbed to the pest.

Directions: Shenandoah National Park. Skyline Drive MM 59.5, Rapidan, VA 22973. In the Upper Pocosin of Shenandoah National Park, about 9 miles in on the Pocosin Hollow Loop trail if starting at Lewis Mountain Picnic Area. Approximately 0.25 mile north of Pocosin Fire Rd and Pocosin Hollow trail intersection, about 600 ft west of trail along stream. Easiest to hike in on Fire Rd from small parking area at mile marker 59.5, about 1.5 mile hike in, 0.5 mi past the ruins of the Far Pocosin Mission site.
