2023 update: Tree has a large hollow cavity at the base. Is full of buds and leafed out nicely last year. Was holding a large honey bee nest. Tree has been tracked back to the early 1800's. Archeologists have found an old seating area that dates back to when the first eastern state hospital was in this area.

2013 update: Tree is located in a horse pasture and is protected. Originally nominated by Leon App, Tom Sudderth, Jr. & Robert McCartney at unknown date prior to 1990 at 320 points. Renominated by William S. Hubard in 1990 at 321 points. Recertification in 2013 found significant trunk decay, but healthy crown. Measured by Jordan Endahl with measurements of 218" circumference, 88' height, and 118' crown spread.
