Comments:
2022 update from Carol King: Was located in Veterans Cemetery near Hampton University. Probably died of natural decline. Has been removed.

January 2019 update from Carol King: There were at least 2 kinds of fungi around the roots, also a huge amount of hollow, open stubs all over the upper trunk. There were some very happy squirrels cavorting about, but otherwise a depressing site.

2013 update: Former National Champion/Co-Champion dethroned in 2013. The tree is in some decline with cracks and sloughing bark, but appears well for its size.
