Comments:
The tree appears to have been struck by lightning in the distant past, but has healed nicely. There is another large black walnut tree on the property closer to the house.
The tree is located on the grounds of 'The Glebe', also known as 'Glebe House', and 'Glebe of Westover Parish'. The term 'glebe' is an historic term referring to an area of land within an ecclesiastical parish used to support a parish priest - in this case, the Westover Parish. According to Wikipedia, 'The Glebe' was constructed around 1745, as a 1.5-story, five-bay brick building, with an early 19th-century rear ell. It reflects Colonial and Federal style design elements. It also has an early 20th-century, one-story, frame wing. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
