2024 update: Recognized as national co-champion for first time, tied with a tree in James City County, VA.
Tree appears healthy and in good form. A true single-stem specimen, which is uncommon for the species. No signs of insect of disease and only moderate decay on upstream side at root collar. Former owner was a logger and a botanist according to present landowner. The river birch was purposely preserved due to its large size and location along the stream.
