Comments:
2025 comment: Tree appears to have been topped in the past, but the crown has recovered by sprouting. Several large branches growing toward the parking area have been pruned back to large stubs in the past few years. Its root collar appears to be buried by fill soil, most likely during construction of townhouses long ago. Historic aerial photos indicate that the building was constructed between 1958 and 1963. The tree is visible in a 1937 aerial photo as a large tree standing alone in a pasture. Town Branch is a perennial stream located a couple hundred feet to the north, so this tree likely germinated in the floodplain of the stream a century or more ago. The field measurement of crown spread had to be supplemented with aerial photos due to it hanging over the building, which prevented full measurement in the field.
