2025 comments: A landscape tree of immense stature. It is treated regularly to control hemlock woolly adelgid. Trunk comprises several stems that have fused just above ground line and remain fused to about 6' above ground. This growth habit is atypical for the species and likely occurred due to pruning or storm damage that injured the primary leader when the tree was young, allowing lateral branches to overcome apical control and grow upright. Because this growth habit is atypical, decision was made to measure the stems individually and compute the score using the composite trunk circumference. Trunk measurement comprises four stems with the following girth measurements: 95", 86", 65", 50". Measurement of the entire fused trunk at 2.5' above ground was 165".
