2025 comments: This tree appears healthy and sound. Tree has a significant sweep in the trunk due to phototropic growth toward a canopy gap. Trunk measured at 4.5' above ground. It is the tallest Virginia pine that the nominators have measured. Field measurement was 121 feet. Lidar scan from July 2020 indicates height of 108 feet. It is unlikely that the tree grew that much in five years. It is possible that a field measurement error occurred with the clinometer due to sweeping trunk lean and the sloped ground. Height will be recorded as the average of these two measurements until the height can be field verified with a laser hypsometer.
