2026 Comments: Located adjacent to septic lines. Was potentially planted, appears to be wild type most likely transplanted from adjoining Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area decades before the property was purchased by Blue Ridge Discovery Center. Occurs alongside planted maples and a cultivated sweet cherry. Tree appears to be in poor health; large burls located on trunk and significant dieback in canopy. Trunk measured at 3.5' above ground level to avoid burl on trunk.
