2022 update: A major leader broke out 8 years ago and, to prevent termites, the trunk was bound with chicken wire and stuffed with bark to fill the gap. The tree is healthy and growing. Trunk circumference was measured below union of multiple leaders in narrowest girth at 6" above ground.
Growing on private estate in Middleburg thought to have been built around 1900-1920. Tree may be part of the original landscape design. The tree was in failing health around 2005, but was treated by an arborist and has improved. A large branch had to be removed, which may impact its size. In 2012, the trunk circumference was measured at 3 ft. above ground due to low branching. Measurements that year by Greg Zell: circumference 116", height 48', crown 59', points 179.
