2018 Update: The tree has continued to thrive, and is growing extremely fast.
Tree appears extremely healthy and is growing extremely fast. It was planted by Mr. Baker's parents after Hurricane Hazel in 1954. The tree seedling was collected during a family outing to the redwoods of California and transplanted behind the family-owned funeral home. It was damaged by Hurricane Isabel in 2003, and now has codominant leaders that form a trunk fork about 60' above ground. It was injured by a severe freeze in January 1985 when the temperature dropped to -3°F.
