2024 update: Recognized as national co-champion with another tree in Fairfax County, VA.
2024 update: The tree has rot in the main trunk and is in slow decline, but still robust. Trunk measurement used for scoring (147") was measured below the fork into multiple stems at 2' above ground. Measurement of each stem at 4.5' above ground: 103", 81", 45".
2021 update: This tree was dethroned as national champion by American Forests in 2021 because it was outscored by another tree in Fairfax County, VA.
2020 update: Declared national champion in 2018 and recognized in 2019 as national co-champion with specimen in Fairfax County, VA. Sole national champ in 2020 due to disqualification of Fairfax tree at national level.
2014 update: A healthy, sound tree. Pruned at top, lost height after previous measurement in 2005. Measured in 2014 by David Green, Michelle Dowling, and Anna Dowling at 135" trunk, 30' height, 48' crown, 177 points.
