2026 Comments: Root suckers cleared from tree base for trunk measurement. Tree appears to be in good health. We believe that this is the original specimen, but it can not be 100% verified. Composite trunk used for scoring (4 stems): Stem 1, 300 degrees NW, measured at 4.5' above ground - 30". Stem 2, 213 degrees SW, measured at 2.8' above ground (below split) - 27". Stem 3, 55 degrees NE, measured at 4.5' above ground - 27". Stem 4, 50 degrees N, measured at 4.3' above ground (to avoid stem swell) - 26". Basal wrap at 0.8' above midslope also taken - 65".
2013 Comments: Subtle differences between the 1991 and 2013 photos suggest that the same tree was not measured in both years. It's possible that the original tree died and a similar tree was located nearby in the same field. Also, the trunk girth reported in 1991 was larger, but this could be due to discrepancy in measurement technique. Tree was reported in 1991 as very healthy in a small ravine and guarded by a ground hog. Measured as 70", 28', 38', and 108 points in 1991. Previously measured by Jordan Endahl in 2013 - Trunk: 60", Height: 28', Crown: 38', Total Points: 98.
