Comments: This is a former national champion that was dethroned in 2016 because of forked trunk. However the tree has all indications that it formed from a single seed. When remeasured in 2017, the circumference of the largest stem was measured at 4.5' above ground line. This measurement adjustment regained its recognition as the national champion in 2019. The smallest common circumference of the stems above ground line is 82", which would put the score at 156 points. It is exceptionally healthy and sound. This species was previously unknown from Sussex County, VA.
