2021 update: This tree was dethroned as national champion by American Forests because the species is no longer eligible.
2019 update: The tree is in overall good health and was producing a fruit set when measured. There was some minor foliar discoloration. The edge of dripline is being excavated to add new plots for burials in the cemetery and headstones date to 2015. 5 stems were measured at 4.5' to calculate a functional circumference. Declared national champion in 2018. The tree appears healthy and sound. It is well cared for by cemetery staff.
