2021 update: This tree was crowned sole national champion by American Forests in 2021
Tree appears very healthy and sound. The area is protected and the tree grows where it gets good light adjacent to a marsh. Circumference was measured at 1 foot above the ground due to the trunk forking below chest height. Tree has a single trunk, but it forks below chest height. At 4.5' there are 5 stems: 18", 18", 21", 15", 15".
